What feels especially cozy; a hug, a shawl, an excess of pillows, hot tea, a good book next to a fire, woolen socks in the winter?
Cozy feels like an embrace that is loving, safe and gentle. It’s why natural, organic elements can create cozy. Wooden beams, sunlight, wide-plank floors and plants. Adding the natural elements connects us to nature and feels cozy; fire in a rock fireplace, earth in indoor plants and backyard organic gardens, air wafting through the house through a beautiful window, water in fountains, bird baths and pools.
Cozy is about that sense of feeling cared for, loved, safe and protected. That’s why a hug, an embrace, really matters. Filling a window seat with pillows creates a small den-like space where we can feel cocooned and held. Being wrapped in a blanket and layering fabric makes us feel hugged, warm and relaxed enough to simply allow ourselves to settle down and release all our concerns.
Cozy is feeling comfort, warm and relaxed. It’s interesting that a cozy is a covering over a teapot that keeps the tea warm. Wrapping ourselves and surrounding ourselves with all that elicits that feeling adds to an environment of cozy. We can literally cover ourselves and our home with cozy and feel warm.
