Many of us have to deal with overly active minds, overly active lives and an overly long list of responsibilities. Making our home a retreat or finding that perfect place to retreat to gives us hope of finding peace, calm and relief. We dream of relaxing, of reinvigorating ourselves, recharging our batteries.
Our environment has an effect on us. Surround ourselves with chaos and harshness, and we will feel it. Surround ourselves with beauty, softness and nature, and we will also feel that. That environment is both internal and external and there is a tangible excitement in the prospect of creating the exact atmosphere we want to immerse ourselves in.
Maybe we feel silence in a sleek contemporary home with a Zen-like simplicity. Maybe we dream of getting away to the most remote vacation home on the planet and just being still. It calms our mind.
Some of us feel completely at home in a wood-filled cottage that oozes charm and makes us happy smelling the morning coffee or the incense. Our dream might be spending time at the lake house, sitting on the dock with our feet dangling in the cool water. It warms our heart.
Then there are some of us who just need to have our hands in dirt, feeling the earth, planting seeds and being on a farm. We want to merge with nature and experience all the sensory joys of flowers, trees, crops, animals and birds. Our dream is to revel in the natural life. It excites our spirit.
Dreams can come true. It may be the full-fledged version of a complete lifestyle immersion. Or the dream come true may be the small garden and one room transformation version. Either way, making our dream come true is an essential component of an authentically happy life. And it can be so exciting and rewarding when we actually create it.
