From the day we were born, all of us have lived in the midst of conditioning and expectations. This comes from our families, our religions, our friends and our societies. Most of us want to fit in and be accepted, loved and included. Being different often means being a pariah, ostracized, left alone and unloved. We signed the social contract and breaking it has its cost.
There is much to be appreciated in that contract. Through the ages people and societies have found what is healthy, safe and beneficial for the group and they pass that along. But many of us find that included in that contract is intolerance, bigotry, sexism, limitation and exclusion. Today we find a growing consciousness that is more inclusive and tolerant, more accepting and allowing. Today we have more room to explore inside and plumb the depths of our Self. What we find is immense creativity, and often that expresses itself in ‘different’ ways of being and living.
When we step outside the box, outside the strict social contract, we might find it a little harder because we may run into intolerance. But when the joy of creativity and expression is released, there is a bliss that wells up that cannot be denied. Our imagination is set free and possibilities turn into realities. Living outside the box has its benefits too.
