Well-being isn’t static. We don’t reach well-being and then have it. We are always evolving, growing, expanding. We are gaining new understandings every day. Our personal taste expands, grows and evolves too in order to reflect who we are becoming. This is reflected in changing styles, in creative expressions and in the process of discovery.
Do you want to add a library section to a kitchen? Do you want to have ottomans everywhere because it’s so comfortable to put your feet up? Do you want a window seat with too many pillows where you can drink tea on a winter’s morning? When we prioritize our well-being, we discover what moves our heart, what inspires us, what allows us to feel peaceful inside. Go for it. Find a way to have that window seat and all those pillows.
When we change a room’s layout or a color scheme, we are expressing creativity and unearthing what really resonates with us. We can try a modern design, a craftsman sensibility, a farmhouse motif and we’ll probably like some part of each one. But, in the end, through the years, we will want to settle into who we are. We will want to prioritize what reflects ‘us’. This is what makes a home livable, lovable and a place for our heart to be at ease. Being ‘us’ makes a home part of us, an extension of us, a womb of safety, warmth, contentment and love.
